Lived in Fayetteville, AR for years and am familiar with West Doss. Also familiar with Fayetteville Public Schools skewed version of handling bullies. Somehow in a bizarre twist of cruel fate my 3rd grade daughter was accused of bullying her former best friend. The school district did a horrible, horrible job of taking care of this situation. In fact, in my opinion, they made it much worse. We never determined if the initial accusation of bullying came from the parents or if it was suggested to the parents by the teacher (who was young, no kids, and clueless in the real area of bullying).
Two days before school was out when my family had done everything to put this nonsense to rest, the other child made a bogus claim of some sort that my daughter had conspired to do her physical harm. This time it was dealt with as far as being disproven at the school level, but the accusing child was not punished for her dishonesty, when she didn't get her way, she went home told her parents, and we ended up with a policeman at our door at 10:30 at night wanting to question our 8 year old daughter. Needless to say he did not. Because I had documented countless emails from both teachers, principal and even to this parent, I was fortunately able to cut through some of the junk and help the police department see what had been going on. We also let the parents know that one more vicious move from them and we would sue them and the school district. It still leaves a very bad taste in my mouth to think of those days. And I still blame Fayetteville Public Schools for gross mishandling of the situation. Much luck to you all.
Just seeing this post--oh gosh--how many kids have to be scarred by the irresponsibility of our tax-payer funded schools? EIGHT YEARS OLD? C'mon!
I hope she is doing better and has few or no memories of that time in her life. I realize every district has issues--but I will never understand what has kept Fayetteville schools from using common sense in this area.
